How I Celebrate the Small and Big Wins in Life

How often do we remember to take care of ourselves? Do we always have to wait for a big achievement to celebrate? Don’t the little wins matter too? These are some of the questions that popped into my mind recently—when I completed a 2-year project at work place. Read on to know how I celebrated this achievement.

Reaping the results of hard work

If there’s one lesson that has stuck to my head since my school days, it is that ‘hard work always pays off’. I’ve been working as the project coordinator for the past 3 years at one of the local ad agencies here in Sydney. I was assigned a new project in my second year and I believe it’s one of the best things that has happened to me. However, looking back, I feel proud that I proactively worked towards seeing its final outcome. The official completion of the project will be in November. Perfect time to celebrate aboard one of the Christmas party cruises in Sydney, isn’t it? I should heartily mention my team members who deserve equal appreciation in this project. Perhaps, I’ll take them too aboard for a harbour cruise with a Christmas party in Sydney.

Celebrating the Little Wins as Much as the Big Wins

All my days, since the time I graduated from college, I’ve been working day in and out, for money of course. But sometimes I questioned why I was working so hard. I needed a break too. And that’s when I started celebrating my little wins just like my bigger wins at work.

Treating myself didn’t just mean helping myself to loads of food, drinks and goodies. I had to celebrate every little moment of my life. But ‘how’, you may ask? I’ll paint you a picture here: Last year around this time, I was just recovering from a bad fight with my family and they disowned me. My only source of income was my 9 to 5 job and one day I met with an accident. I was hospitalised for a week following a severe fracture in my right leg. I can now imagine the grimace on your face as you read this. But hear me out folks.  I’m glad I had some savings to fall back on. After a few months, I started working from home and  was soon back on my feet. If it weren’t for that one accident, I wouldn’t be grateful for whatever I have today. Presently, I am expecting a promotion and a salary hike too. It doesn’t look so bad now, does it? My personal definition of ‘treating’ revolves around taking care of oneself every day and celebrating and being grateful for everything in my life.

Accepting Life’s Highs & Lows

Sometimes, when I look at a calendar, I wonder about the unequal distribution of holidays. You might even argue about why Christmas in Australia should be celebrated in July and not in December (for obvious reasons). But does anything good come of it? Not at all. And life is just like that. Sometimes life gives you the most citric lemons and oranges that you might not be able to accommodate. But sometimes it’s honey and rainbows. And it’s unpredictable; you gotta take them as it comes. Life teaches you, humbles you and mostly proves you wrong too. But all through this, if you work hard enough to keep yourself sane, you could probably make a meaning of it. You may take my word for it.

So, what do you think folks? Have you been treating yourself well? Share your thoughts with me in the comment box.

Unique Alternatives to Regular Office Parties

It’s only a matter of time before companies start throwing office parties or after-hour activities to celebrate a year of hard work and commitment. This time of the year is also an opportunity for employers to show appreciation to their staff. But throwing any mediocre party is not enough. The last thing you want is a room full of awkward handshakes and uncomfortable smiles. It’s up to the host or organiser to assemble a party or event that can build camaraderie among workers and revitalise them to go back to the office on Monday.

Here’s how you can put a different spin to the usual holiday parties!

The Christmas Party Harbour Cruises in Sydney

Cruises offer the perfect setting to connect and show love to each other. Celebrate by bringing a cake and savouring it while looking  at some of the most stunning sights of the city. If you’re looking for your colleagues to canonise you for the most spectacular party ever, then this is it! Whatever the occasion–business meetings, conferences, award ceremonies, workshops–the cruises are an excellent venue. There are many vessels for you to choose from but the one that stands out the most is the classic paddlewheeler. The old-world charm and the overall class which is seen throughout this legendary vessel is second to none and with a multi-course menu, you are guaranteed a memorable time out in Sydney! Add that to the fully -licensed bar and the wide range of beverage upgrades and you got yourself the best harbour cruise for a Christmas party.

How about a themed party ?

Throw it back to the 80s or 70s, to your college days, or even try setting up a theme party of your favourite sitcom. Do a poll beforehand to know which is the fan favourite show among your colleagues or friends.  For example, if you’re hosting a How I Met Your Mother office party, you could rent out a pub or bar for one night and blow the roof off the place. Fill the night with tons of slap bets, yellow umbrellas and never have I evers. You can also surprise them with a laser tag or paintball! Play a couple of games involving a stolen pineapple, life-sized stormtroopers or  blue-french horns, sip on some of the finest scotches and play a series of “ Have you met..”. You can even ask the workers to dress up as their favourite characters and play respective roles!

Give Back

Holidays typically ooze a delightful, vibrant energy but it is also one of the most stressful times of the year, due to the packed schedule and over-expectations. As a boss or organiser, you can cook up something to show your colleagues that you care about them and encourage them to get through this last stretch of the year. Set up an award ceremony, make sure everyone is involved, make prior lists of who gets what so that no one is left behind and maybe even deck up the office. If possible, try making the awards monetary as it will be of great benefit if its during the holidays

Slay a weekend away

If you’re looking to wander away from the big smoke and plan a quick trip away, then there are few options worth considering. If only just for a weekend there’s plenty of options that are synonymous with the hippie lifestyle, from glamping and camping to farm stays. If you have all the necessary gear, just pack everything up and head to some of the most glorious camping locations across the state including The Basin, Glenworth Valley, Mystery Bay Camping Area and more! Sometimes all we need is a little time out in nature with the best company, so don’t even think twice on this pick!

The venue makes for more than half of the success in such parties and if you still haven’t found yours, check out this list.

Corporate Christmas Party Cruises on Sydney Harbour

Surely there are plenty of restaurants and private dining rooms in the city to plan a casual team outing, but hosting a classy event onboard one of the top boats on Sydney Harbour is a different gravy. If you’re keen on impressing your colleagues or even your boss, then this is your pick. Book a cruise on the authentic paddlewheeler for an unforgettable wine and dine experience on the harbour waters, surrounded by luminous city lights and the iconic landmarks of the nation. Cruise on this classic vessel for a fun night out with your companions–share intimate moments on the wrap-around verandahs, take advantage of the onboard bars, savour delicious food and enjoy the hour-long cabaret show!

And if you prefer a day party, then the Harbour cruise Christmas party lunch would be your go-to option. A lunch cruise sets the right ambience to enjoy mouth-watering food and drinks with your team; and with the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge in the background, expect nothing short of spectacular!

Escape Rooms!

If you’re looking to stay away from the norm and do something unique for your corporate team that will remain treasured for many years, then you should give Escape Rooms a go! This is one of those exhilarating, out-of-the-box venues to host a Christmas Party and will be ideal to improve morale and team cohesion. Sydney has a bunch of escape rooms and the newer “challenge rooms” including Escape Hunt, The Cipher Room, Next Level Escape and Hijinx Hotel. With unique team-building games, mystery puzzles and unusual clues, you and your buddies will be immersed in a highly interactive game where you would communicate with each other like never before and work as a team! This makes it an excellent choice for office parties.

Disco-theme?

Perhaps the one thing that’s synonymous with office parties around the world is that it’s such a snore. But hey, yours don’t have to be like that. Combine every element of a throwback, recommend a theme, create costume ideas that travel back to the 70s, or any other decade! Make it that everyone should come to the party with the fashion trend of the said period and dance to the respective music at that time. If you’re looking to kick it up even further, make drinks and snacks also period-appropriate! Tatler in Darlinghurst is the perfect venue for such parties with the right amount of features to make it seem as a private home, except for the part of cleaning up yourself! They even offer DJs, pianists, acrobats and other performers to ensure you enjoy something of a shotopper!

Rooftop Part-aay!

Rooftops are always a win situation for corporate events. Glenmore Hotel in The Rocks is dubbed as the best rooftop garden in Sydney and rightly so. Perfect for long lunches, whether it be a cocktail for 150 people or a BBQ for 20, soaking up the sun and relaxing while enjoying views of the harbour is an experience worth remembering. Even if you prefer to stay indoors the lounge will be ideal since it has a great reputation for hosting hundreds of successful private functions and gatherings.
