Self-Care Ideas in Sydney 2022

Sydney harbour night cruise
Sydney harbour night cruise

When you conjure up an image of Sydney, what comes to your mind is the bustling city with its traffic, towering skyscrapers, crowded cafes and the large crowds which aren’t far from truth. Sydney is all that, and beyond. And living in such a busy city can impact your mental health in the long run. So it’s important that you practise self-care while living in one of the world’s busiest cities. Easier said than done, but it’s not unattainable. Here are a few ways you can indulge in self-care in Sydney.

Take yourself out for some ‘me time’

Who doesn’t need a tiny break in between all the hustle? Take yourself out on a date to one of the pretty waterfront restaurants . Or go to Sydney’s healthy cafes where the ingredients are sourced locally and fresh. These cafes not only fill your belly but also your conscience. If you want to be away from the city, book yourself a Sydney Harbour night cruise where you can enjoy your dinner with a good view of Sydney’s glorious skyline. If you’re a day person, then treat yourself to a lunch boat cruise on Sydney Harbour instead!

Wander into different worlds in between the pages.

What better way to free yourself than getting lost between the pages of a good book? Of course you can get the books online-they are super convenient and even cheaper. But it is so hard to replicate the feeling of scouring through actual titles, and even bumping into a random stranger who gives you advice on what to read. An actual bookstore offers you that strange calmness that scrolling can never replace. It is a space for contemplation, in a way almost like meditation. So if you are into reading or you just want to skim through the titles, Sydney’s bookshops have a lot to offer.  Step out and be prepared to get lost in between the pages.

Spa day is the way

What screams self-care more than a day at the spa? And Sydney has plenty of them. From Venustus to Shangri La or Langham’s Chi, Sydney offers one of the best spa experiences. There is a reason why spas enjoy the popularity they get. A day at the spa is synonymous with being in heaven for a couple of hours.. It improves blood flow, cleanses your skin and is probably the most popular way of stress relief.  Most spas have their own brand of quality skin care products. Even the shortest time spent in a spa is a relaxing and a luxurious experience.

Stretch the stress away

With our busy routines everyday moving through the even busier crowds and traffic, we often forget about taking care of our body. When it comes to our everyday life, our muscles get weaker and no longer have the full range motion they once had. This increases  the risk of muscular tears and joint pain. Stretching everyday can reduce these risks. Be it yoga or pilates, Sydney has plenty of aesthetic yoga and pilates studios. With serene sounds and a pleasing ambience, taking care of your body becomes easier.

In a world where everyone is hustling from one day to another, especially in a city like Sydney that’s always bustling, it is easy to be negligent about our mind and body. But it is important to understand that it’s not as hard as it sounds. Simple everyday habits like working out, establishing a skincare routine or occasional indulgences like spa or a dining cruise can be a relief to the mind as well as for the body. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you treat yourself with love.

A Day in Sydney–Must-visit Places & Attractions

Boat dinner sydney

What if you have just one day to spend in Sydney? You’d prolly travel to the best places out there before you leave for good. For all the first-time visitors and budget-travelers, here’s a simple itinerary to guide you through. Being a Sydneysider, you can count on me to suggest to you the highlights of the city that will sweep you off your feet.

The Sydney Tower Eye

It is the city’s highest viewing point which offers great views and gives you a 360° panorama of Sydney. Treat your eyes to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge on the iconic Sydney Harbour. You can also indulge in a unique 1hr experience of a fully guided SKYWALK tour around the outside of the top of Sydney Tower.

The popular harbour cruises

If you go on board a boat cruise for dinner in Sydney, you can enjoy dazzling views of Luna Park, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kirribilli House along with Opera House, Harbour Bridge, all basking in the night’s glory. Experience Sydney at a glance as you cruise through the calm waters.

The Darling Harbour

This harbour is a bustling waterside precinct adjacent to the centre of the city that is home to major public attractions like Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, Tumbalong Park, Madame Tussauds, Aboriginal Centre and more. Here, you’ll also find King Street Wharf where cruises and ferries arrive and depart. I would suggest going aboard a Sydney Harbour day cruise to get a sneak-peek into the daily ongoings in the area.

Bondi to Coogee Coast Walk

This is the most popular coastal walk in Australia. It extends over six kilometres in length and will take around three hours for you to complete. For the health-conscious fitness freaks, this could be the ideal route for a fitness walk while you’re in the city.   Or if you simply wish to explore the route, you can start by chilling at Bondi Beach and finish by cooling off at Coogee Beach.

The Circular Quay

Circular Quay is the major transport hub of Sydney and its iconic harbour, where you’ll find many attractions including the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House in Sydney Cove. All these landmarks also offer a glimpse into the eventful history of Sydney. If you are lucky, you can even be entertained by street performers here.

The Rocks

Next to Circular Quay is The Rocks. It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Australia. The area has some of the oldest pubs and upscale restaurants overlooking harbour views. It has a number of heritage-listed buildings such as the Custom House, The Museum of Contemporary Art and plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars. If you’re here in this area during the weekend, don’t forget to check out The Rocks Market..

The Art Gallery of NSW

It is one of the best attractions and finest galleries in all of Australia. It was founded as the New South Wales Academy of Art in 1872 and was known as the National Gallery of NSW between 1883 and 1958 located in The Domain in Sydney. If you’re a culture-vulture, a visit to this gallery would be a transformative experience. The gallery is composed of five different levels, each of which presents a diverse range of art and artistic styles including pieces of Aboriginal Art, Colonial and European influenced Australian art of the 20th Century, and galleries featuring tributes to masters of European and Asian origin.

Sydney as a city has so much more to offer as attractions other than the ones mentioned. I have just specified the best of the lot. If you’re planning to go holidaying in Sydney in future, stay tuned to my blog for more helpful content. Bon voyage!

How I Celebrate the Small and Big Wins in Life

christmas party cruises sydney

How often do we remember to take care of ourselves? Do we always have to wait for a big achievement to celebrate? Don’t the little wins matter too? These are some of the questions that popped into my mind recently—when I completed a 2-year project at work place. Read on to know how I celebrated this achievement.

Reaping the results of hard work

If there’s one lesson that has stuck to my head since my school days, it is that ‘hard work always pays off’. I’ve been working as the project coordinator for the past 3 years at one of the local ad agencies here in Sydney. I was assigned a new project in my second year and I believe it’s one of the best things that has happened to me. However, looking back, I feel proud that I proactively worked towards seeing its final outcome. The official completion of the project will be in November. Perfect time to celebrate aboard one of the Christmas party cruises in Sydney, isn’t it? I should heartily mention my team members who deserve equal appreciation in this project. Perhaps, I’ll take them too aboard for a harbour cruise with a Christmas party in Sydney.

Celebrating the Little Wins as Much as the Big Wins

All my days, since the time I graduated from college, I’ve been working day in and out, for money of course. But sometimes I questioned why I was working so hard. I needed a break too. And that’s when I started celebrating my little wins just like my bigger wins at work.

Treating myself didn’t just mean helping myself to loads of food, drinks and goodies. I had to celebrate every little moment of my life. But ‘how’, you may ask? I’ll paint you a picture here: Last year around this time, I was just recovering from a bad fight with my family and they disowned me. My only source of income was my 9 to 5 job and one day I met with an accident. I was hospitalised for a week following a severe fracture in my right leg. I can now imagine the grimace on your face as you read this. But hear me out folks.  I’m glad I had some savings to fall back on. After a few months, I started working from home and  was soon back on my feet. If it weren’t for that one accident, I wouldn’t be grateful for whatever I have today. Presently, I am expecting a promotion and a salary hike too. It doesn’t look so bad now, does it? My personal definition of ‘treating’ revolves around taking care of oneself every day and celebrating and being grateful for everything in my life.

Accepting Life’s Highs & Lows

Sometimes, when I look at a calendar, I wonder about the unequal distribution of holidays. You might even argue about why Christmas in Australia should be celebrated in July and not in December (for obvious reasons). But does anything good come of it? Not at all. And life is just like that. Sometimes life gives you the most citric lemons and oranges that you might not be able to accommodate. But sometimes it’s honey and rainbows. And it’s unpredictable; you gotta take them as it comes. Life teaches you, humbles you and mostly proves you wrong too. But all through this, if you work hard enough to keep yourself sane, you could probably make a meaning of it. You may take my word for it.

So, what do you think folks? Have you been treating yourself well? Share your thoughts with me in the comment box.

The Influence of Travel in Our Lives.

dinner cruise sydney harbour

There was a time when I was merely living. Waking up in the morning, heading to work, returning and then hitting the bed for the night. The cycle went on with only a slight change in the weekends and holidays which I spent mostly indoors, doing nothing worthwhile. Sooner than later, I started feeling moody, irritated and tired of this rut. I just needed a change, I even felt like giving up my job. It was just too much for me. Living the same monotonous life with no meaning. That’s when I decided to take a break and travel. A life away from my life.

Well easier said than done, travelling surely is expensive. You can solve the problem to an extent if you make sure you choose your activities wisely–something that won’t burn a hole through your pocket. To start off, I travelled to Sydney and I did something that was on my mind for ages–a dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour.  Viewing Sydney with lights and its wonders at night was extremely beautiful.  I witnessed many groups of family, friends and colleagues as I was all alone. I didn’t mind, I wanted to do this all by myself. I loved the experience so much that I also went on a lunch cruise on Sydney harbour before I left the city. Cruising on the waters facing the Harbour Bridge and Opera House was indeed a dream come true. So, that’s how I began my travel escapades and I can’t tell how much this decision has changed and rejuvenated me as a person. Here’s a sneak-peek into how travel brought a positive change to my life.

Travel recharges you

Just like a cellphone needs to be charged after its battery drains, we need to charge ourselves too. Travelling is one way to do it and restore all that lost energy. Disconnecting yourself from your familiar surroundings and your usual activities is enough to help you get back to your routine life all refreshed, beginning each day with a new zeal.

Travel is a great stress-buster

With constant work and responsibilities follow stress and anxiety. All this tension can take a toll on your health. There’s where travel proves to be a great stress-buster. Take in the fresh air as you explore different places, it will only excite you and make you smile. That itself is a great medicine for the soul & the mind and opens way to inner peace.

Learning new cultures through travel

Rather than just reading and passively learning about different cultures, the active way is to go out there and learn about it personally and practically. You can communicate with people of different backgrounds and traditions and learn a lot about them and the place they live in. Varied perspectives help in self-development. It leads you to be liberal-minded, unprejudiced and adaptable to situations & people around you.

Travelling transforms you

Last of all, you will feel totally transformed after travelling to different places, meeting new people, knowing their cultures and tasting their delicacies. Breaking free from your boring routine life and immersing yourself into something as exciting as travelling, change will be an inevitable outcome.

Travelling has completely re-moulded and changed my life for the best. I believe that each day of my life now has a new meaning. If travelling can create such wonders for me, just think what impact it can create in your life. So go on a journey and see the world in a whole new perspective. Bon voyage!

How I Plan To End The Year On a High Note

new years cruises sydney
new years cruises sydney

For billions, 2022 was the first normal year after a horrendous couple of years and coming into it I had high hopes and renewed dreams. As nonchalant as I am, I was kind of  nervous stepping into the New Year but I guess that’s also part of who I am. I was supposed to make a buck load of money and have heaps of fun, but I was humbled by life itself, when a sickness had struck me. Now the year feels like it’s been split into messy chapters and rightfully so. I started out as a copywriter, enjoyed a brief vacation in Gold Coast, my hair got whiter by the month, I became ill for over two weeks and now I’m getting back on my feet in August, which made me wonder ‘What’s next?’.

The climax I deserve

Given that there isn’t much left of 2022, it’s safe to say it’s not too early to think about ending the year on a high note. Who doesn’t deserve a glorious climax? The thing about living in Sydney is you can be spoilt for choice when picking anything, especially if it’s during the last few days of the year. But for me, booking the New Year cruises was a walk in the park. This ethereal ending to the year is just what I need to start the next one with high spirits.

A rejuvenating dining experience with impressive angles of the family and midnight fireworks show, along with some fizzy drinks to keep you going! Renowned to be the best vantage point in Sydney to watch the pyrotechnics, these cruises are a great way to wave off the year in style. And with the likes of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Luna Park and more as backdrops, you will never run out of photo ops! Surely there’s no better way to end the year than onboard these highly-recommended New Year cruises on Sydney Harbour right?!

Introspect. Shortlist. Scrap.

This is not a marvel movie. This is your life. You don’t want a sequel of your current year actions for the next year. It should be a whole darn reboot. It doesn’t necessarily mean you drop everything, forget your mistakes and go forward unplanned. Acknowledging your lows is just as important.  I owe it to myself to start anew, forge a better year and stay less stagnant. Still, there will be many various elements I plan to carry on from 2022 like writing, working out and learning new skills that I stalled halfway through. A pro tip you can use is writing down everything you achieved along with things you didn’t. Make sure you highlight the achievements so that you can gear up for 2023 and move on swiftly!

The two Gs

If there’s one thing I have right now that can change the world, it’s generosity. To be as generous as the heroic food vendors at Broadway Shopping Centre who give out 100 free meals to students every Tuesday, is something I aspire to be before the year ends. That’s as real as it gets. I have overlooked  plenty of opportunities to be generous and grateful. When I jotted down the 2022 review , I felt like I should be overflowing with gratefulness but the breakneck speed in which I hustled blinded me to them. I look to transform this gratefulness into generosity, giving the world what was given to me.

Final thoughts

The year varies for all people. Although I faced my fair share of lows, I’m ready to put everything that’s holding me aside and move on, kick off the new year with some oomph!  So let’s take action and end the year on the highest note! See you in 2023!

A Little Bit of Everything: Life in Australia

Don’t you just love it when life gives you a little bit of everything? Remember the song by Dawes which goes,

“…I want a little bit of everything,

The biscuits and the beans,

Whatever helps me to forget about

The things that brought me to my knees,…”

Until a few months ago, this was one song that I used to resonate the most with. Feels like hope. As an Indian born to a middle-class family, I never knew what I was missing out on. Ever since I moved to Australia, life has been sweet to me. Not that I don’t have bad days, but my circumstances have been better than they used to be. I have found my home far away from home in Australia, the place where you are free to enjoy a little bit of everything—from getting to meet people from different parts of the world to getting the chance to try all kinds of cuisines. I even got aboard a Sydney Harbour cruise offering lunch with a view of the famous harbour attractions the other day. It’s only my second month in the country, and it already feels like I’ve already made a lifetime of memories in such a short span of time. So many beautiful destinations, amazing food, and nary an uncomfortable moment around the people here; they truly make me feel at home.

So here’s what I’m gonna do folks! Here’s a list of things I wish to do while I’m here. (I swear my amma’s (my mom) gonna be pissed if she sees this list. But fingers crossed on that)

I have flashbacks of my amma leering at me for that one time I went to a movie past the curfew. Back in my country, cabaret is only a secret pleasure, especially for the guys. But here in Sydney, I was quite surprised to see people going aboard the popular showboat dinner cruise with their families. It was a sensuous form of art and people appreciated it for just that and the last thing they did was sexualise the bodies of the artists on stage. So here I am, adding this to the top of my list.

  • Eat camel meat

I hail from a country that has an unending war going on between beef-eaters and non-beef eaters. And naturally, my family and I’ve been accustomed to eating just chicken meat, that too occasionally. Now that I’m on a different continent, I could lose that identity for a while. Although camel meat looks like a quirky meat option to me, I consider it ‘cause it’s one of the staple food items in the Land Down Under. So here goes nothing!

  • Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Now that’s going to be an adventure for me! Although not so adventurous in the literal sense, It will be for me…only ‘cause I’m scared of heights. It stands some 134 metres above sea level and is said to offer the most stunning views of the harbour. I realise it will take a chunk out of my wallet, but I’m sure it will be worth it.

  • Take a selfie with a quokka

I can already tell my amma would approve this! She’s a great lover of animals and so am I. Quokkas, as I heard of, are the cutest, aren’t they? From the time I heard about these smiling marsupials on the Rottnest Island near Perth, I’ve been keenly waiting for a chance to meet them up close and perhaps, get a selfie. Waiting for my next holiday bonus at work to make this happen.

As much as I miss my home and my amma, most of all, I hope to experience every bit of this beautiful country, little by little. Perhaps, I could bring my mom here in future too and show her a new life, which I’m sure she’ll love! Vouch for my wish, won’t you? Ranting’s not over yet guys…be right back next week. Until then, byeeeeee!

Sydney NYE and Why We Look Up to it?

Syndey NYE Cruises

Sydney New Year’s Eve (NYE) – a celebration that wows the world–excites me every time, even though I’ve not missed it even once since my childhood days. Of course, I don’t count my infant years. I just love seeing the fireworks, you know? This year too, I have high hopes for the event and I might as well write something to contain my excitement around this time of the year. Here are some reasons why I don’t miss Sydney New Year’s Eve, at least for the time I intend to be in this city.

Two Fireworks for Double the Fun

Of all things bright and flashy, I’d like to talk about the Sydney Harbour fireworks on NYE. There’s two fireworks, and that explains my unending love for this event. The family fireworks take place at 9pm and then there’s the bigger one happening at midnight. If you’re wondering why they have two fireworks, here’s why. One’s for the families with kids who can’t stay up late till the midnight fireworks and the 12am one is for the revellers. I know…Sydney is considerate that way! This massive event is much anticipated by the locals and tourists alike. One of my favourite ways to experience this double-barreled fun is aboard the Sydney New Year’s Eve cruises. These cruises will take you through the most picturesque routes, offering you the most incredible views of the fireworks and the cityscape clad in many lights and hues. If you’ve been planning to attend this upcoming festival, be sure to check out the Sydney NYE cruises , ‘cause they offer the best vantage points.

Interesting Aboriginal Events

Every year, on NYE, we don’t just witness the magnificent fireworks show and entertainment  but also an intriguing cultural event that is showcased by the Gadigal people. The original inhabitants, the indigenous people of the land and their culture will be showcased on a global magnitude and will be up for broadcast for viewers across the planet. Animated projections, traditional portraits, silhouettes – all beamed onto the pylons of Sydney Harbour Bridge!  If you’re a Sydneysider you may have already seen a glimpse of it during the annual Vivid Sydney, but this time it’s bigger and better! Starting off with the smoking ceremony, the official welcoming of the Gadigal people continues with bird calls and yidakis which will be complemented by soundtracks from First Nations’ artists. That’s not all! To evoke the very spirit of the gathering, even the fireworks show will be in a pastel coloured ‘earth’ theme including sunflower shells and ochre-willow shells with boomerangs, eels and whales, making special appearances. You can also catch music performances from some super talented artists including Dobby, Nana Miss Koori and more!

The Afterparty

The thing about Sydney is, in the grand scheme of things, the midnight fireworks show may seem like the fitting climax to a wonderful night out with friends or family. Although this is partly true for some, others strive to keep the night going! Sydney Central Business District (CBD) is the go-to spot for party-goers like me who like to keep the good vibes rolling. While it’s too early to point out the where and when, chances are that there’s gonna be more than a dozen joints where you can continue the chugging and hogging. Most parties close their entries before midnight so if you have a place in mind you can check them out early for tickets, as the last thing you want is standing outside your favourite club. Most of these taverns or clubs offer you the chance to see off the early morning, dancing to your favourite tunes and drinking the finest beers, so if letting out your inner party animal is on your NYE itinerary, this city got it covered!

Glimpses From The Best of Australia 2022

The Land Down Under is often looked down on by many but being a traveller for the past eleven years I have almost entirely explored what the country is all about. And trust me when I tell you this, it is hands down the best country I’ve been to and I’ve been to over 32 countries to date. Not only is it brimming with extraordinary natural wonders including national parks, beaches and rainforests, but it’s one of the most developed nations on the planet. “ Perfectly balanced, as all things should be ”. Now, if you’re planning to venture into this vast nation, here is a glance of how you can enjoy and make the most of its attractions.

The ultimate starting point

Being on the forefront of Australian tourism, Sydney is one of the major cities on the planet itself. You absolutely need to start your Australian exploration from this city. A lunch cruise on the famous harbour will easily give you the best views of Sydney, including that of the well-known Opera House and Harbour Bridge, along with other attractions. It’s arguably the best way to soak up the true beauty of the city, and with a sumptuous food and beverage menu you’ll get a glimpse into the Australian culinary scenes as well. The views are nothing short of breathtaking so be ready to get some unique angles of the icons and set your socials on fire! Even a dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour for that matter is a brilliant way to appreciate the gorgeous harbour city but this time, under the ethereal night skies!

Must listen to the wave calling

Beaches and Surfing. If there’s any two essentials for the Australian way of living, it’s these two. To put it mildly, the shoreline is enormous. And you can easily catch a wave regardless of which state you are in. There are more than 12,000 beaches, but if you’re starting your itinerary in Sydney, check out the iconic Bondi Beach. The waves here are decent and even if you’re not up for something physical, you can always enjoy the culture and food that is pretty touristy in these parts. Gold Coast in Queensland is known to be the go-to surfing destination for many, and you can experience world-class waves that are ideal for both beginners and pros.

Get behind the wheels

Who doesn’t love road trips? If you’re visiting the country with your entire family, the best way to soak up some of its splendid natural landscapes in one go is to gear up for a road trip. Vans, high-octane jeeps or even a rental car would do the trick. The Great Ocean Road, starting in Torquay and ending in Allansford, Victoria, is the ultimate road trip in Australia. The legendary 12 Apostles stand tall along the coast of this road trip and not just that – Mariner’s Lookout, Lower Kalimna Falls, The redwoods, Hopetoun Falls, all lie across this beautiful road region.

Wave to a shark or a ray

Last but not the least, we have the reef, not just any reef, but the biggest and most diverse one on the panet. If you’re one with nature and waters, or into water activities like snorkelling or scuba, then there’s no better place than the Great Barrier Reef. Even if you’re not a fan of the ocean you can explore the reef by a boat or enjoy an aerial view of it on a chopper. But I would suggest guided diving any day. It is the only way to fully explore the reef, its unique marine life and the extraordinary ecosystem. If it’s the right season you might even come across a whale shark or a manta!

6) Parks/Outdoor Spaces – You might be surprised, but you can certainly choose parks and outdoor spaces as a venue for your corporate Christmas parties. Relishing a Christmas BBQ with your colleagues in the great outdoors would be a fantastic experience.

Corporate Christmas parties are usually considered boring and formal. But It need not be like that folks. Make the effort and time to organise the party diligently and it will certainly go a long way. Plan an exciting venue and host it elegantly by choosing the right event managers, there’s no doubt it will be a raging success, my friends!
